George Kwesi Twum
George Kwesi Twum is one of the names that comes up when speaking about Ghana's media scene. His vision to develop an independent broadcasting sector in Ghana led to the founding of Joy FM, the first private radio station in Ghana. This vision later gave birth to Multimedia Group Limited of which he is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Director.
In 20 years, since the inception of Joy FM in 1995, George Kwesi Twum has built a media empire that consists of six radio stations (Joy FM, Luv FM, Adom FM, Nhyira FM, Hitz FM and Asempa FM), a multi-channelled television station, an online business with multiple radio plug-ins, and more around it. For most people, George Kwesi Twum can also be credited for the existence of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA). He participates regularly in international media conferences.
In 2016, George Kewsi Twum received the honour at the edition of the Exclusive Men of the Year, in recognition of his contribution to the growth of the private media landscape and promoting excellence in media in Ghana. Beyond the media sector, he also holds chairs in a number of companies and organizations, he served as Executive Chairman of Ridgecrest Services Ltd., is an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) and a board member of the Board of SOS Children’s Villages, Ghana.
He is a Fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative, an Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellowship Initiative and he holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
